Silent Spring Book Design Project
Graphic Design, Typography
This project is a typographic and visual redesign of Silent Spring, the influential environmental book written by Rachel Carson. The goal of the project was to translate Carson’s ecological argument into a visual language that reflects the urgency and complexity of the environmental crisis she describes.
The design responds directly to the book’s central message that ecological systems are deeply interconnected. Throughout the layout, thin lines visually link insects, plants, soil, water, and human elements across spreads. These connections function as a graphic metaphor for Carson’s argument that actions in one part of an ecosystem inevitably affect the whole in interconnected systems.
