Rupture is a photobook that examines feminist resistance through the work of contemporary women and feminist photographers from the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. The project explores how photography can challenge silence, stigma, and cultural taboos while amplifying perspectives that have often been overlooked within mainstream visual culture.
Through editorial design, image sequencing, and critical research, Rupture brings together photographic practices that address themes of gender, identity, memory, embodiment, and social expectations. The publication highlights how artists from the region use portraiture, documentary photography, performance, and conceptual image-making to reclaim personal and collective narratives.
Designed as both a visual and research-based publication, the book creates a dialogue between contemporary photographers working across different cultural contexts within the MENA region. Rupture positions the photobook as a space for feminist discourse, alternative knowledge production, and cross-cultural exchange, investigating how photography can make visible experiences that have historically remained hidden or stigmatized.
